Graduation Requirements
Before a student is issued a diploma, counselors must verify that they have met all graduation requirements. Counselors will be working closely with teachers to make sure students are passing and will reach out to students/families that are in danger of not passing a course required to graduate.
A senior with 20.5 credits earned by June 11th may participate in the graduation ceremonies with the understanding that graduation will not officially occur until 22 credits have been earned.
Students having earned less than 20.5 credits will not be allowed to participate in graduation ceremonies.
If you have any questions or concerns about credits, please see your counselor to get clarification as soon as possible.
In order to earn a Memorial diploma a student must have earned 22 credits, including the following:
- English – 4 credits
- Social Studies – 3 credits
- Science – 3 credits
- Math – 3 credits
- Humanities – 1 credit
- PE – 1.5 credits
- Health – 0.5 credits
- Financial Literacy - 0.5 credits
Caps & Gowns
If your student did not receive their packet from Midwest Scholastic for ordering their cap & gown, please contact Rachel Braun in the Wisconsin Neighborhood Office. All paper orders with checks must be mailed directly to Midwest Scholastic. Orders can also be placed online at www.mwscholastic.com/2025-vpm-store. Orders and payments must be made directly to Midwest Scholastic, Memorial will NOT accept orders or payments. ALL QUESTIONS ABOUT ORDERS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED DIRECTLY TO MIDWEST SCHOLASTIC at questions@mwscholastic.com. Please make sure to place your orders before the end of February. A late fee of $15 will be added to orders beginning March 1, 2025.
Caps and gowns are delivered to the school and will be distributed to students on Senior Celebration Day at the end of April. Communication will go out to families at that time.
If you would like to donate your gently used caps and gowns to our students in need for future use, you may bring them to the VPM Welcome Center during business hours.

Graduation Ceremony
The Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2025 will take place on Saturday, June 14th at 10:00am at the University of Wisconsin Kohl Center. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis as there is an ample amount of seats available, including handicapped seating. More details will be shared at a later date.
MMSD Guidance for Graduation Ceremony Attire
At their graduation ceremonies, students will be allowed to adorn their sashes with pins that signify an accomplishment they achieved during high school (e.g. AVID, PEOPLE, TEEM Scholars, Early College STEM Academy Graduates, etc). Stoles for MMSD programs such as BSU and other MMSD clubs/programs can also be worn with building principal approval, but the school stole must be laid over any other being worn.
It is preferred that students don't decorate their caps; however, if students choose to do so, if the decorations become a disruption to the ceremony, the student's cap will be taken and returned at the end of the ceremony. A student has the right to wear religious, ceremonial, or cultural adornments at graduation as long as it is not likely to cause a substantial disruption of, or interference with, the ceremony. One example of adornments that would be allowed under this guidance is a Native American student who wishes to wear a feather that holds religious or cultural significance for them. Any exceptions to this guidance must be approved by the Associate Superintendent of High Schools.
