Cap & Gown Distribution/Senior Celebration Day
Our Annual Senior Celebration Day will be held on Wednesday, May 1st at VPM for the Class of 2024. Students will participate in a variety of activities during their English class. Activities include cap and gown pick-up, photo booth, pennant designs, final senior survey, and more! Students that do not have an English class or attend alternative programming outside of the building are also welcome to attend on that day. The event will run the entire school day in the brand new Atrium.
If you would like to help us celebrate on this day, we would welcome donations of individually wrapped prepackaged food items. Examples include granola bars and snack size bags of crackers/chips/pretzels/
Senior Honors Convocation
The Honors Convocation is an event that serves two main purposes. The first is to celebrate our seniors receiving scholarships awarded through Memorial High School. Memorial is fortunate that a variety of state and local organizations give annual financial scholarship awards to graduating seniors. Each agency or organization sets the criteria to be met. The criteria varies widely but most often relates to grade point average, service to school or community, leadership, character, participation in extracurricular activities, or some combination of the above. The Memorial Scholarship Committee uses the set criteria to determine which students will receive each scholarship.
The other main purpose is to award honor cords to those seniors graduating with Honors or High Honors. Graduating seniors can attain this status if their seventh semester cumulative grade point average is 3.5-3.79 for Honors or 3.8-4.0 for High Honors. Transfer students are eligible only if letter grades (A-B-C-D-F scale) were posted in each year of high school, grade nine through semester one of grade twelve. Seniors graduating with Honor or High Honors will wear gold cords during the graduation ceremony. Distinctions between Honors and High Honors will be listed in the graduation program and at the Honors Convocation.
**Seniors earning scholarships or honor cords will receive invitations to the Honors Convocation in May.
